About Us:

MAPS' Mission is 1) to treat conditions for which conventional medicines provide limited relief- such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), pain, drug dependence, anxiety and depression associated with end-of-life issues- by developing psychedelics and marijuana into prescription medicines; 2) to treat many thousands of people by building a network of clinics where treatments can be provided; and 3) to educate the public honestly about the risks and benefits of psychedelics and marijuana.
MAPS is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit chartered in 1986 as a membership based research and educational organization. It was founded one year after the federal Drug Enforcement Administration made 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) a Schedule 1 drug and criminalized its recreational and therapeutic uses. MDMA is a unique medication that we believe has the potential to enhance the psychotherapeutic process and should become a prescription medicine.
We are developing and funding clinical trials with human subjects in accordance with guidelines set forth by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the European Medicines Agency and the International Council on Harmonization. Simultaneously, we are training therapists to administer psychedelic drugs in therapeutic settings.
We believe psychedelics and marijuana, when used in proper settings, can aid in psychotherapeutic treatment for a variety of psychological issues, including PTSD, end-of-life anxiety, depression, drug addiction, and pain.
We believe psychedelics' and marijuana's benefits and risks to physiology, cognitive function and creativity should be thoroughly researched.
We pursue our mission by helping and/or sponsoring scientific researchers to design, obtain government approval for, fund, conduct and report on psychedelic and marijuana research with human volunteers.
We also pursue our mission by maintaining our website to ensure people have access to factual information about MDMA, psychedelics and marijuana research; We make ourselves available to the media in order to provide a factual and informed perspective on psychedelics and marijuana; We publish books, produce a magazine-style Bulletin, and send out regular e-newsletters about contemporary issues related to psychedelic and marijuana research and therapy; We provide experts to speak at universities, conferences and other events.
Our Mission:
